Department of Transportation

NCDOT's Equipment Repair Shop involved relocating the existing four bay equipment repair shops from the Department of Correction's property to NCDOT's property.

The final building needed to be located to take advantage of the existing roadway system & to expand the number of bays.

The facility design included:

  • 12 Service Bays
  • Tire Changing
  • Tire Storage
  • Parts Room
  • Offices
  • Welding Shop
  • Storage
  • Vehicle Lifts
  • Restrooms
  • Overhead Bridge Crane

Natural lighting & ventilation are provided by the clerestory, window & door placements & the resulting storage mezzanine from the sloped roof.

Other features included two 2-ton bridge cranes & 4 hydraulic vehicle floor lifts. An overhead carbon monoxide exhaust system was designed with the exhaust outlet located in the roof clerestory, thus avoiding any potential for groundwater problems.
