Butler
Hall, a 129-bed men's dormitory, is located near the northwest
corner of the Elizabeth City State University campus. The original
three story south half of the building was constructed in 1928
and was demolished and reconstructed to match its original exterior
design. The north half, constructed in 1938 was totally renovated
with new mechanical and electrical systems.
The
interior of the south half 11,286 Square feet was redesigned
to provide pairs of bedroom suites with individual restroom
facilities for more private living.
The
north half bedroom layout remained the same, 11,913 square feet
with newly renovated community type restroom facilities. A partial
attic is provided for luggage storage. A new passenger elevator
was added along with new entrance ramps and barrier free or
handicap type bedrooms (2) with restrooms in compliance with
the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) Guidelines and the
State Building Code.
